Why You Should Shop Local For The Holidays

If you’re like me, you try to start shopping for the holidays early, but end up scrambling last minute to get everyone’s gifts. I know how stressful this can be, and over the years I’ve gotten better at starting to shop earlier for Christmas. It’s definitely easy to shop at big box stores like Macy’s, Nordstrom, etc. I know I love a good name brand here and there. There’s usually a wide variety of choices at one big name store, that’s what makes it easy. To shop for everyone on your list at one shop sounds appealing.

Over the years I have become more aware of the local businesses in Pittsburgh, especially since I started blogging. It’s incredible to me how many local shops that are out there that I had no idea even existed. I’ve come to realize the importance of shopping small and how you’re impacting not just that individual person, but your whole community. Whether it’s clothing, candles, home decor, jewelry, you name it, I’ll be looking to local first, especially during the holidays.

One of the events that is held in Pittsburgh every year is The Joy of Cookies Tour in Lawrenceville. I’ve heard of this event for the past couple of years and always wanted to go. I decided to go this year and was inspired by all of the local shops that take part in this event. It was eye-opening to see what local shops are in Lawrenceville that I haven’t checked out before. The tour consists of 50+ shops that all bake cookies for you to try along the way. While I unfortunately wasn’t able to try 50+ cookies, the ones I did try were so good! It was fun to walk around the shops, and try the yummy cookies. I even did some Christmas shopping while I was there, and that was great because as I was checking things off of my gift list, I was also supporting Pittsburgh’s local businesses.

Even though the cookie tour is over, you can still check out the amazing stores that Lawrenceville has to offer! I’m breaking down most of the shops that were a part of the cookie tour for you in different categories. If you’re not from Pittsburgh, I still encourage you to get out and shop local wherever you are! You can get so many wonderful gifts or even something for yourself at these shops!

I love giving truffles from Chocolate Moonshine as gifts… and then also picking up a few for myself!
